SOS Children village, which was designed by Ja'far Toukan, won the Aga Khan Award. The landscape in hot and humid weather of Aqaba was carefully designed by Sanabel and was planned to ensure privacy for, and uniqueness of, each house while maintaining a unifying theme for the entire village. Orange groves and vegetable planting areas were designed to keep the village food self-sufficient. Urban Elements were carefully designed to encourage the feel of neighborhood thus encouraging social interaction.
